Ingredients (serves 4)
- 1 packet of Perencah Nasi Daging (Beef Rice Spice)
- 4 cups of rice
- 5 cups of water
- 600g of beef (cut into 3 or 4 inches)
- 5 tablespoon of ghee or butter
- 3 pcs of green chillies
- 5 pcs of tomatoes (diced)
- 3 pcs of curry leaves
- 2 inches of cinnamon
- few pcs of cloves
- few pcs of cardamon
- 1 stalk of lemon grass (crushed)
fine slice
- 10 pcs of shallots
- 5 cloves of garlic
- 2 inches of ginger
Cooking Method
- Wash and drain rice.
- Heat ghee or butter, then fry sliced shallots, garlic, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, cardamon and curry leaves and fry until golden brown.
- Add beef, green chillies, tomatoes and Beef Rice Spice and cook until tender.
- Add water and bring to boil.
- Add rice and cook rice as normal - slow flame.
- While waiting for rice to cook, prepare Air Asam (Asam Sauce)
Recipe for Air Asam (Asam Sauce)
Ingredients (serves 4)- 2 pcs of Tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon of Belacan (Shrimp Paste)
- 1 pc big Onion
- 2 pcs of Cili Padi (Small Red Chillies) - increase quantity according to your liking
- 3 pcs of Red Chillies - increase quantity according to your liking
- Lime Juice - extracted from 1/2 lime
- 1 tablespoon of Oyster Sauce
- Salts and sugar
fine slice the above and mix together and allow to rest.

Dip the beef with the Asam Sauce and enjoy your meal. Warning for those new to spices - the cinnamon, cardamon, cloves are included in the recipe to enhance the flavour. Therefore it is advisable to remove them before serving otherwise you may experience uneasy taste even in a single bite.
